 4 by 5 Results

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I took 8 pictures when my friends and I went to take photos with the 4 by 5 toyo field camera at the school studio. I knew I would not have enough time to develop them all, so I placed them in a dark bag to process later. I did, however, develop one that day to ensure that there was an image on it. When I developed this one, I left the dark bag open a bit so the rest of my negatives had  little bit of exposure on each one.

Luckily, we got that new SP 445 developing tank and I used that to develop the other 7 negatives.

A silly (and should not have happened) mistake, but the effect is ok on most of the images!

The look I was going for:

Dark and dramatic

And, so, the results:

About the process:

This process was amazing. I enjoyed working with the 4 by 5, it was great experience. I was worried that I ruined my negatives and would have to go back and re-do it. Only because of time. I planned, then arranged to go in, then had to wait a week before I could go back in to develop, then had to wait another week before I could find time to go in and enlarge them.

If I had more time to give, I would work more with this beautiful camera.

Thoughts on final results:

Overall, I a happy with how they turned out. I enjoyed the entire process. There are two images I did not enlarge, but might at a later date. And as I mentioned above, if I had more time in my days to play around, I would explore this camera further. Maybe in the future!

The exposed images, which is mainly all of them, turned out well. It would be better if they weren't exposed at all, but it did not fully ruin the image or the look and feel I was going for.

I could have possibly spent more time in the enlargement process doing some dodging and burning. Maybe practice for another day! After all, I have the negatives for life now!

Dexter Portrait 4 is my absolute favourite. I love abstract art. I used to be a perfectionist when it came to, well, everything. Now, I see so much beauty in the different, unordinary, the unique. I am going to splash this one with coloured paint and hang it on my wall. I am not entirely sure if this is just from being exposed, or if there is more at play here, but it created an image that is so unique and suited to the style of photography I want to get into.

The universe may have helped me out - lead me to a direction I may not have discovered otherwise.

That may sound silly, but I resonate with this one most. I love them all, but this one is my favourite.

Until next time!
