PhotoMontage, Take 2

PhotoMontage 2

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Preparation

I needed to refresh the brain, so I utilized a iso400 roll of film and went in on the weekend to develop it. I used a new to me film camera, and quickly learned that I overexposed majority of my shots. But, this is partly why I wanted to get ahead start! Refresh the brain, and learn this camera!

--------------The Supplies and Layout ---------------

The intention is for the body to be completely black and the brain to have images within it. The heart is intended to stay white and the paper background may have a very faded image of another project  created in Print Media, relating to radical acceptance.

---------------The Process & Outcome--------------

The FIRST Process:
**aperture at 8**
Step 1: Cover everything but the brain.
Step 2: Use multiple images to create the montage within the brain. Each one on for 3 seconds. Another sheet, with a hole in it is utilized to cover areas where images need to be or where they have already been.
Step 3: Uncover the body, covering the brain and the put the heart shape on the photo paper.
Step 4: Run the enlarger for 30 second, to create the body as black as can be.
Step 5: Cover everything but the background and create a very faint background image.

The Initial Outcome

The process is quite long, and I ended up messing it up on the very last step (silly!) I forgot to cover the brain section during the last step, and the result is above. So I continued on to try again....

The REFINED Process:
** aperture opened up to 5.6**
Step 1: Cover everything but the brain.
Step 2: Use multiple images to create the montage within the brain. Each one on for 1.5 seconds. Another sheet, with a hole in it is utilized to cover areas where images need to be or where they have already been.
Step 3: Uncover the body, covering the brain and the put the heart shape on the photo paper.
Step 4: Run the enlarger for 30 second, to create the body as black as can be.
Step 5: I covered the body, but left open the brain section and the heart section, to create a little bit of an effect within them.

The Final Outcome

Title: What we control in a chaotic world

The world that surrounds us is a little chaotic at times. What you think and feel matters, and affects not only the world around you, but the world within yourself.  IN a world where we have so little control over the larger exhibit that we call life, we have control over what we think, what we feel, and how we respond to situations that arise within our own life. We have so much power in creating our own story, our own future, just by what we think and the actions we take.

<< BeYou.BeTrue. Always >>

The hands on either side were actually a happy mistake! That was unintentional, but it adds so much to the montage. After testing this a couple of times, I realized that I needed to adjust a few things. The image meant to be in the background did not show up as well as I had hoped, but created a little bit of an effect. See the next blog on Unique Perspective for some creations with the image that was intended to be in the background.

----------------Final Piece shown in class----------------

I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on these images!
